In the National Study of Youth and Religion research project, Dr. Christian Smith and his fellow researchers discovered that the predominant religion among young people in the United States is “Moralistic Therapeutic Deism”.  In short, this is a belief in a God who wants us to be happy and to be nice to others.  However, these young people also don’t believe that God is personally involved in their lives, and they are different about religious practice.  How would you contrast this with Jesus’ invitation to be his disciple?  What might Jesus think about indifference to religious practice?
