Why is more joy and fulfillment found on the way of the Cross?

When I choose to carry the crosses of my life, I suffer, but, at the same time I am glad that I am suffering with Jesus. This is exactly the same experience we get when we raise a family. We suffer for our children, but we are joyful when we see our children happy that is the result of our suffering.
