If only God can save, what does it mean that you have a role in salvation history?
We can recruit and lead others to Christ so they can be saved
Bruce
That is right Bruce. In that way we are participating in the Salvific process. We are cooperating with God in the Salvation process. Like you said evangelizing is one way of participation. St. Paul said we are different parts of one body with different roles. you are participating in this process by Glorifying God with music. You are also enabling others to glorify God using music. I will get back to this question.
In the beginning when God created all that is in the world he saw that it was “very good”. Good is the potential for perfection. We use the term “original justice” in describing how God created, in giving everything all it is due - for what? “Be perfect even as your heavenly Father is perfect” (Mt. 5:48). We have been given what we need; what is due in order to strive, or seek perfection. In order to do that we must cooperate with God. We cooperate with God by filling our role as stewards of all he has given us. To no other creature (creation) has he given this responsibility. Part of this is our care, stewardship towards others. To love (love and care come from the same Latin root “caritas”) is to desire the highest and the greatest for the sake of the beloved. The highest and greatest for anyone is heaven. God asks us to help “perfect” others. “Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I complete what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the Church” (Col. 1:24). Just as in the beginning when God charged us with cooperating with Him to strive towards perfection (seek the greatest good - Mt. 19:17), Jesus asks us to cooperate with him in bringing ourselves and others to our greatest Good. This was also the circumstance with our Blessed Mother at the Annunciation. God didn’t just decide that was going to happen, Mary had the opportunity to cooperate with God for our redemption, or to reject His invitation. Each of the apostles too could have rejected God’s call as each pope, priest and ourselves, but we cooperate in order to “fill up what is lacking in Chrit’s afflictions”; pursuing our and our neighbors spot in heaven.
