Why is it true that “ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ”?
Because when you love someone, you need to understand that person. To understand that person, one needs to spend lot of time with that person. To know Christ, we need to read the scriptures. If we ignore scriptures, we ignore Christ.
“In the beginning… God said…” Genesis 1
”In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God… and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us”. Jn. 1
“And beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself” Luke 24
Scripture points out many different things, such as events, traditions and rites, also a standard of behavior, but more than point to the “what’s” and the “how’s”, it constantly points to “who”: “God with us”. Scripture shows God being in relationship with us; walking with (or to use a more traditional word, “tabernacling” with) us. It shows the relationship he has with us and desires we have with him. This is the role Jesus lived. “Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and he shall be called Emmanuel (which means, God with us) Matthew 1.
Scripture is God’s love letter to us. Love letters reveal persons and the love they have. God’s love letter reveals himself, and in revealing himself it reveals the Son, whom the Father is one with and so the Word of God in Scripture is not a what, why, or how, but Who from all eternity: “Before Abraham was, I Am” John 8
