I've not watched the video; this is my opinion:  Purgatory does exist.  It's a Gift of Mercy and Love from God.  When we die, we may well have remnants of sin on our soul.  Purgatory is a cleansing act, which allows us to unite with God in the purest, cleanest sense of our being.

Even though we go to confession for mercy and forgiveness, there is still the justice aspect that exists.  The classic example of a nail comes to mind.  We can pull out (confession) the nail (sin) from the wooden board (our soul), but there is still a hole that remains.  Purgatory fills that hole.

Another analogy I have heard is, if I played a soccer game and next I have to be in a wedding.  I wouldn't go straight from the soccer game.  I would go home shower, clean up and then go to the wedding feast.  Purgatory is that cleaning process.

God is perfect.  We are not.  The trials and tribulations that we experience while on earth also cleanses us.  Hebrews 12:6 says "FOR WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE DISCIPLINES, AND HE PUNISHES EVERY SON WHOM HE ACCEPTS.”.  You might have heard some Saints when they were alive say that they welcome suffering.

I really like your analogy!

I'm not much of a masochist; that word comes up when I think of the notion of welcoming suffering.  While I endure what gets drop-kicked into my life, I don't look for suffering.
