Jesus' approach to Jerusalem was made along a road that goes down from the Mount of Olives and then up to Jerusalem. Read Luke 19:28-44. He rode on a donkey just as the first son of David, Solomon, rode a donkey to his coronation years before (1 Kings 1:33). "Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!" the people shouted in praise, a quote from Psalm 118, which was a psalm of praise in celebration of a Davidic king's victory over his enemies. Jesus was approaching Jerusalem in triumph as the son of David, heir to the throne. Why then did he weep as he approached the city?
