Mount Sinai is thought to be the same mountain on which Moses met God in the burning This time the whole top of the mountain is burning with God's holy fire. Moses meets God there and receives what we know as the Ten Commandments, written by the finger of God on two tablets of stone. These are commands that liberate. They tell the newly freed slaves how to live as redeemed people, to keep from falling back into bondage.
- How do the commands in Exodus 20:2-11 sum up the lessons of their delivery from Egypt?
- How do the rest of the commandments follow on or relate to the first set?
These verses address the Ten Commandments God gave the Israelites and us. Verses 2 to 11 talk about our relationship with God and the rest talk about relationship among ourselves. God wants the Israelites to remember and have gratitude for saving them from slavery in Egypt. This applies to us also because the Commandments offer a pathway to freedom from slavery of sin pushed by some in our culture.
